In view of its growing importance, the Directorate of Air Services has now become a separate

head of the Estimates, and additional funds have been included in order to enable it to provide satisfactory services for the increasing volume of air traffic which is now including Hong Kong in its itinerary.

As you are already aware, a considerable

expansion in the Labour Office has been provided for.

The increase in establishment amounts to three Labour

Officers, one of whom will have special trade union

experience, one Lady Assistant Labour Officer and one Chinese Assistant Labour Officer. One of the Labour

Officers who has been appointed to one of these vacancies served in this capacity during the Military Administration as a military officer on loan, and he continued to serve until he left the Army and was appointed in a civil

capacity.

Under the head "Miscellaneous Services" a sum of $250,000 has been inserted as a token contribution to
